BYPY or Birmingham Young Professional of the Year, for those of you who aren’t acquainted, took place at the ICC on the evening of May 2nd.

I’ve been to my fair share of ‘black tie’ do’s and awards ceremonies but this one was different. It had all the glitz & glamour that you might expect from one of the most important nights in Birmingham’s business calendar, the food was outstanding, the atmosphere was amazing, the night was ably hosted by Sky News’ Sarah Jane Mee and I’m reliably informed that the ‘after – parties’ didn’t disappoint either!!

But these aren’t the reasons it was different! This was different because Becky Simkiss, my co-director, was a finalist!

To put this into some sort of context it’s worth noting that before Becky & I embarked on our journey that is SimkissGuy Recruitment, her career had been entirely with SME’s! Now, with our exciting but fledgling business, she was competing with her peers from national & multinational organisations, waving the SimkissGuy banner in front of the good and the great of the Birmingham business world.

While we congratulate Birmingham Future on organising this inspirational event, and Sean Sales of Deutsche Bank, the overall winner, in the context of the competition, I can’t help but feel that the events of May 2nd were anything else but a victory for Becky Simkiss and for SimkissGuy Recruitment!
