Founded by former colleagues Rebecca Simkiss and Richard Guy; the business brings a unique combination of commercial office recruitment industry knowledge and experience.
Based in the heart of Birmingham City Centre and in Solihull, SimkissGuy is a multi award winning independent office support and graduate specialist recruitment consultancy providing bespoke permanent, temporary and contract recruitment solutions throughout the West Midlands.
Since 2004, Rebecca has developed an outstanding reputation across the region as a recruitment specialist, supporting hundreds of PLCs, SMEs, growing enterprises, and public and third sector organisations. Rebecca’s extensive portfolio of clients and thousands of candidates verify her drive and passion to offer nothing less than exceptional service to all, and to raise standards in the recruitment industry.
Rebecca is incredibly passionate about promoting Birmingham as a fantastic place to live and work and is a big believer in doing all you can to give back to the city. She is Vice-Chair and Trustee of local charity “LoveBrum”, Chair of the Regional Advisory Board for The Access Project, a board member for West Midlands Women’s Voice and former Chair of BPS Birmingham Future – where during her tenure she created the Future Leadership Development Programme in partnership with Aston Business School. Alongside this Rebecca is a trained Thomas International Personality Profiler and UK Corporate Governance practitioner, and a mentor to a number of students and young professionals across the city.
Keen to retain talented up and coming professionals in the region, Rebecca regularly delivers talks on aspiration, personal brand and leadership, as well as hosting sessions on CV presentation, effective applications and interview skills for 6th Form, College and University students around the West Midlands. She was a finalist in 2013’s Birmingham Young Professional of the Year Awards and in 2014 was recognised as a “rising star in business” by an independent board. In 2016, Rebecca was awarded a Fellowship from Birmingham Metropolitan College in acknowledgement of her contribution to mentoring, and in October 2017 won Businesswoman of the Year at the Birmingham Awards. In 2018, Rebecca was a finalist at the IOD Director of the Year Awards in recognition of her commitment to CSR, and in November 2018 was awarded Woman of the Year at the City of Birmingham Business Awards.
Richard has approaching 20 years recruitment experience, firstly with one of Birmingham’s premier office support consultancies where he rapidly rose through the ranks. Richard quickly developed a reputation for providing outstanding service to a broad portfolio of clients and candidates for permanent, temporary and contract office support roles across the greater Birmingham area. He built a successful team of consultants which thrived on the principle that happy clients and candidates are the best marketeers in the city!
A change in approach saw Richard’s employer move away from this principle and he moved to a role which then placed him in the position of recruitment agency user. He began to understand exactly what it’s like to be in cold callers’ ‘cross hairs’ – receiving up to a dozen calls a day from hungry recruiters, none of whom seemed particularly interested in deviating from their script to listen to his needs. Except one – who asked, listened, understood and, as a result, became Richard’s ‘go to’ recruiter.
A believer in giving back, Richard supports those beginning their career in professional services through BPS Birmingham’s Future Mentoring Academy and is an Enterprise Adviser for Solihull Council’s Life Ready programme – providing an invaluable link between those choosing not to go to university and the professional services sector. Richard has been actively supporting the Colmore Business District as a member of their Outstanding Places Working Group and, more recently, was appointed as non-executive Board Director to help drive the strategic direction of Colmore BID.
Rebecca and Richard’s experience inspired the SimkissGuy director led approach with a “no sales, just outstanding service” commitment to businesses and candidates to listen, understand and only then recruit.
